In hardly any other region are traditions, crafts, and musical gatherings lived out in such a down-to-earth way as in the Appenzell region. This cultural identity also shapes our establishment.
We cherish and preserve these traditions with great appreciation—and invite you to get to know the region and its people in a special way.
An experience every season
In spring and early summer, herders and livestock make their way to the Alpstein, accompanied by colorful cattle drives and the “Betruuf.” “Stobede” and other musical festivals take place in the summer. Cattle shows in the fall and “Chlausezüüg” during the Christmas season: Here, traditions and customs are cherished and upheld throughout the year. For the people here, this isn’t just a show for visitors—it’s an expression of their deep connection to their homeland. Appenzell and its traditions form a bond that never fails to captivate outsiders time and time again.
Crafts
Embroidery, traditional costume jewelry, and other traditional crafts are just as much a part of the scene as Appenzell folk music with its typical instrumentation, including the hammered dulcimer—as the Appenzellers say: “Taaleschwinge ond Hackbrett lose” (swinging talers and listening to the hammered dulcimer).
Culinary
The selection ranges from Appenzeller Biber and “Landsgmeendschrempfli” to “Südwöscht ond Chääsmageroone”—best enjoyed with Appenzeller beer or “Flauder.”
Excursions
The Ebenalp, the Hohe Kasten, the Kronberg, and even the Säntis are all great destinations for day trips with wonderful views. The mountain inns treat guests to regional specialties.
