In hardly any other region are traditions, crafts, and musical conviviality lived out as authentically as in the Appenzell region. This cultural identity also shapes our hotel.
We cherish and preserve these traditions with great appreciation—and invite you to get to know the region and its people in a special way.
An experience in every season
In spring and early summer, herdsmen and cattle make their way to the Alpstein, accompanied by colorful cattle drives and the “Betruuf.” “Stobede” and other musical festivals take place in the summer. Cattle shows in the fall and “Chlausezüüg” during the Christmas season: here, traditions and customs are cherished and preserved throughout the year. For the people here, this is not a performance for guests but an expression of their deep connection to their homeland. Appenzell and its traditions form a bond that continues to captivate visitors time and again.
Crafts
Embroidery, traditional costume jewelry, and other traditional crafts are just as much a part of the scene as Appenzell folk music with its typical instrumentation, including the hammered dulcimer—as the Appenzellers say: “Taaleschwinge ond Hackbrett lose” (swinging talers and listening to a hammered dulcimer).
Culinary
The selection ranges from Appenzeller Biber and “Landsgmeendschrempfli” to “Südwöscht ond Chääsmageroone”—gladly accompanied by Appenzeller beer or “Flauder.”
Excursions
The Ebenalp, the Hohe Kasten, the Kronberg, or even the Säntis are great destinations for an excursion with wonderful views. The mountain inns treat you to regional specialties.
