Dear guests,

The season when tourists do not flock to Appenzellerland is to be promoted with targeted measures. When hiking trails are inaccessible, no sun shines on Lake Seealp and tourist attractions such as the Äscher mountain inn are in hibernation, it is the lesser-known offerings that make a trip to Appenzellerland an experience to remember.

"For several years now, I have been involved as a representative of the hotel industry in the work of the Appenzell Innerrhoden Tourism Board. Promoting the winter months has been on our to-do list for quite some time."

Under the title "Increasing Attractiveness," the tourism association, the district of Schwende, and the Hotel Hof Weissbad launched the lantern trail in 2011. It is a project that would not be possible without the help of volunteers. I always start planning for the new season in late summer. The new team must be organized and tasks assigned by the first Sunday in Advent. There are those who fill the lanterns and those who light them. Every winter brings new innovations. For the ninth season, we decided to extinguish the lanterns late in the evening. In previous years, petrol was filled for four hours. Today, the tank is full and lasts for a good two evenings. My tip: on Sunday evening, accompany a Storyteller guests and locals cross paths – pure mysticism!

Get together with the locals

I would like to recommend three places in the immediate vicinity of the hotel if you want to experience winter sports, happy children, and beautiful nature. And in these places, you can easily strike up a conversation with the locals about anything under the sun.

Children and adults alike enjoy skating on the natural ice rink in Glandenstein. The rink is illuminated in the evening, making it ideal for a stroll after dinner. (5 minutes)

Schwende can be reached in a 20-minute walk. In the Kinderland at the Horn ski lift, little ones can learn their first turns on skis, while older children can ski down the steep FIS slope. The "Höttli" is the perfect place to warm up. Here you will be served by former Hof Weissbad employees!

A short panoramic trail and a snowshoe route lead from the Ebenalp cable car station past the mountain restaurant to the summit of the Ebenalp. Snowshoes are available. Don't forget your sunglasses!

Holidays in Appenzellerland begin at home. This is made possible by the free travel by public transport, a gift from Appenzell Tourism to all guests who stay three nights or more in a hotel in Appenzell Innerrhoden. The journey home and luggage transport from door to door are of course also included. I take my hat off to our tourism director Guido Buob, who has consistently implemented his vision with great perseverance and has launched a sustainable project with this campaign.
