Culinary excellence at the Culinary Olympics

From February 2 to 7, 2024, the IKA Culinary Olympics took place in Stuttgart, where teams of chefs from all over the world competed for medals. Four employees from the Hotel Hof Weissbad in Appenzellerland took part and were extremely successful.

Vice Olympic title for Simone Devittori


After an impressive start with two gold medals in the "Restaurant of Nations" and "Chef's Table" disciplines, the national culinary team won silver and thus the Olympic silver medal in the overall standings. Our 24-year-old Simone Devittori contributed to this success. After winning the world championship title in 2022, the Swiss national culinary team was completely reorganized, and the Hotel Hof Weissbad is now the only member from a company east of Zurich with Simone.

Jan Schmid wins his third title


There was also celebration for the Swiss Armed Forces Culinary Team with Jan Schmid – they won the gold medal and the Olympic title. The team cooked a three-course menu for 120 people in five and a half hours and impressed the jury. They even secured the trophy for the highest score in the "Military Teams" category. Jan Schmid already won the world championship title as part of the junior national team in 2022 and came third in the Culinary Olympics in 2020.

Successful Swiss Culinary Creators


The Swiss Culinary Creators from eastern Switzerland were delighted to win gold in the preliminary round. Their display table on the theme of Swiss sports received a lot of positive feedback from the jury. They came fourth in the overall regional team rankings. Two employees from the Hotel Hof Weissbad, Manuela Dörig and Lukas Müller, were part of the successful team. Like Jan Schmid and Simone Devittori, Manuela Dörig works as a chef in Käthi Fässler's 30-strong kitchen team. Lukas Müller enjoyed his training as a chef with the 16 Gault Millau-awarded chef. Not only did they learn from Käthi Fässler, but almost all members of the Swiss Culinary Creators have been influenced by the Hotel Hof Weissbad in their careers.
